SUMMARY:Storytelling in Nature with Pierre Blin
DESCRIPTION:About the Storytelling in Nature Series\nThe Storytelling in Nature events offer a chance to hear storytellers from all backgrounds tell stories about Nature in Nature. Many cultures have traditions of oral storytelling. We experience stories differently when they are animated\, told through an experienced storyteller\, and when we experience them in an outdoor\, group setting. Each Storytelling in Nature event also includes an activity related to the theme of the story in some way. We hope participants experience these stories in ways that deepen their appreciation of community and of our natural environment. \nAbout our Storyteller\nFor our first Storytelling in Nature event of 2026\, we are pleased to welcome Pierre Blin as our storyteller. Pierre Blin is a storyteller and nature educator with over 25 years of experience teaching wilderness and ancestral skills through camps\, education centres\, and his nature education business\, Rivers and Roots. With a background in Outdoor and Experiential Education from Queen’s University\, his work has also included countless hours of study in wild food\, foraging\, and nature-based mentorship. \n \nAbout the Event\nJoin us for a fireside storytelling experience exploring themes of fire\, origin\, and connection across cultures. Pierre will share a dramatic retelling of “Coyote Steals Fire for the People” from the Karuk people of Western North America\, alongside brief reflections on other fire creation stories from around the world. \nThe live story will be followed by hands-on fire-making activities\, including simple ignition techniques with matches\, the use of spruce pitch as a natural fire starter\, and demonstrations of friction methods such as a bow drill and hand drill. \nOur Supporters\nThis event is supported by several organizations\, including Earth Path\, Birch Path Healing Forest\, Forest Therapy Ottawa\, and Forêt Capitale Forest.  This is a free event. There will be a donation jar and guests are welcomed to offer donations to help support future storytelling events. Please RSVP as more details will be sent just ahead of the event.

Each Storytelling in Nature event has an activity\, somewhat related to the theme of the story.  We hope participants experience these stories in ways that deepen their appreciation of community and of our natural environment. \nAbout our Storyteller\nFor our October 5th event\, we are pleased to welcome Gail Anglin as our storyteller.  Gail Anglin’s storytelling has delighted listeners of all ages in the National Capital region for many years. Her compelling voice creates personalities for the characters she describes as she draws audiences into magical worlds that are sometimes dark but more often humourous. Gail is Co-President of Ottawa StoryTellers. \n \nAbout the Event\nIn this autumn season\, many beings are readying for winter.  Migratory birds have undertaken their seasonal journeys\, flying to locations where they can access crucial resources.  Gail’s story will touch upon this theme of movement and migration\, and tell of a magical flight\, or perhaps a young man’s flight of fantasy. \nWe follow the story\, with some snacks and an educational experience\, and learn about and listen for several birds that are seen regularly along the walking path close to the Storytelling circle. \nOur Supporters\nThis event is supported by several organizations\, including Forest Therapy Ottawa\, Bird Friendly Ottawa\, Nanabush Food Forests\, and Forêt Capitale Forest.  We also thank the City of Ottawa\, through their CEPGP program\, have directly helped support this event. \nThis is a free event.  There will be a donation jar and guests are welcomed to offer donations to help support future storytelling events.  Please RSVP for this event as more details will be sent just ahead of the event.  In the event of rainy or challenging weather\, we will still plan to proceed in a sheltered area.

DESCRIPTION:Join celebrated Indigenous storyteller Louise Profeit-Leblanc for a morning of tales woven with wisdom\, culture\, and nature. Set in the Birch Path Healing Forest at 2391 Pepin Court\, this enchanting event is part of the Storytelling in Nature series—presented by Forêt Capitale Forest and the Birch Path Healing Forest Committee\, in collaboration with Bird Friendly Ottawa. Open to all ages. This is an invitation to slow down\, listen\, and reconnect with the land through story. \nThis storytelling series is formatted to celebrate the art of the oral storytelling tradition that all cultures of the world have historically practiced and to participate actively in Nature.  After Louise’s story\, attendees are invited to join in a hands-on tree care exercise. \nWhile this is a free event\, attendees are welcome to donate a small amount to support future storytelling events. \nAbout Our Storyteller\, Story-keeper\nLouise is a member of the Nacho N’yak Dän First Nation\, Northeastern Yukon. She is a mother\, grandmother and Story -keeper.  She presently lives in Wakefield\, Quebec with her husband Bob.  \nShe is grateful for the privilege of having ancestral stories passed down to her by her Elders. SUMMARY:'Storytelling in Nature' Spring Equinox Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Forêt Capitale Forest\, Birch Path Healing Forest\, Bird Friendly Ottawa\, and Ottawa Storytellers are collaborating on a pilot Storytelling in Nature Series in 2025. \nThe organizing team will gather on Saturday\, March 22nd at 2 pm and are inviting volunteers who want to help with the storytelling series to join them in a nature walk and share personal stories about what Spring Equinox means to them.  The group will meet at the Pavilion at 2391 Pepin Court and end up around a fire pit at the Birch Path Healing Forest or gather in a greenhouse in the event of rain.
