As many of you know, we only run the Just Food Farm stand during the growing season, typically July-October. Our start and end dates are weather-dependent. It looks like the start to spring is later this year than last.
Come on summer! Get here!
To fill the gap, there is a Just Food 15th anniversary party coming up on April 29th, from 11am-4pm.
There’s going to be a repair cafe, a few workshops, kids activities, and some producers will be there. Meet the folks who grow the food, subscribe to their CSA (customer supported agriculture) programs, tour the farm, take a wagon ride, drop by for a picnic and/or to see the barn renovations.
Please come check out all of the wonderful produce, honey, and preserves every Sunday from 10am-3pm at 2389 Pepin Court. We have just completed our 2nd week at the farm stand, and there are ‘growing’ numbers of reasons to come and shop! Savoury pancakes! Bees and puppies! Beautiful certified organic vegetables! High-flavour, forest preserves! alright… ’nuff said, come check it out!
Very excited to welcome back the farmers to the Just Food Farm Stand at 2389 Pepin Court! Time to load up on some vegetables, honey, herbs and preserves grown right within Ottawa! There promises to be booth contests and prizes along with all the delicious foods on offer. See you there!
The league of extraordinary farmers at the Just Food farm have been busily harvesting their produce and bringing all kinds of amazing stuff to the Sunday farm stand. As we head into October, there is a chill in the air. Not too long from now, the farm activities will slow and ssshhhhh… dare we say it, winter will be upon us. It’s a great time to take stock, and stock up!
Sundays, 10am-3pm at the farm, 2389 Pepin Court, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The Just Food Farm is abuzz with activity. 3 years of farmers are busily planting their crops. So much diversity, it would be an injustice to try to list everything that is happening. Really the only important message here is that if you miss the Just Food Farm stand this year, you miss out on a whole lot of wonderful!!
Special first market day? June 26th, 2015 we will have a first market, since this is a special event day, where we are launching the 2015 season, and inviting many wonderful guests! C’mon over!
A brief reminder that Tiller’s Haven will be joining the Farm Stand and Garlic Celebration Day, Sunday, September 14 with new harvests and a pickle corner to celebrate all things garlic!
Some of our new harvests include: Broad beans, Okra, Fennel, Green Onions, Carrots (Chantenay and Nantes varieties), Potatoes (Red), Beets, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Daikon, Roselle, Amaranthus (red-green), Cucumbers, Zucchinis, Corn, Basil, and Chicory Lettuce.
Having started our farm project this Spring we don’t have garlic among our harvest this year. To celebrate all things garlic, we will share our favorite pickle recipe to go with the garlic our neighboring farmers will be selling. Our pickle corner will have baby varieties of carrots, cucumbers, peppers, broad beans, eggplants and unripe melons – to prepare your own pickle mix and start consuming after one month!
It is a very exciting time! Plants are growing, more seeds go in the ground each day. The league is preparing for our Sunday, July 6th start day. Our team at
Nanabush Food Forests has some really wonderful low sugar fruit preserves that we will be bringing, and likely some early vegetables as well.
We have heard through the grape vine (figuratively, and because we have many grapes growing on the plot, literally), that the following farms will also be participating this year:
C & L Gardens
Goddard Id Farm
Nanabush Food Forests
Van Vliet Horticulture
The Wild Garden
